  • EMBO | EMBL Symposium — The non-coding genome

    In the 50 years since RNA was identified as a central component in the flow of genetic information, it has become increasingly clear that RNA performs many additional diverse and interesting functions. Regulatory RNAs are known to play central roles across numerous biological processes required for cell viability and function. Moreover, prokaryotic and eukaryotic genomes are pervasively transcribed to generated many additional RNAs with unknown functions, raising the question: What else does RNA do?

  • Frontiers of Cell Signaling

    Cell signaling, which is extremely complex and yet highly precise, is responsible for the development and function of multicellular organisms. Abnormal cell signaling leads to diseases. Recently, significant progress has been made in the biological studies of mechanisms and functions of signal transduction. At the conference, experts in Wnt, planar cell polarity and Hippo signaling, as well as signal transduction will discuss latest advances and new challenges. Additional talks will be selected from abstracts and poster awards will be given to excellent poster presentations by postdoctoral fellows and students. Social and networking opportunities will be included in the meeting program.

  • Gordon Research Conference — Germinal Stem Cell Biology 2015

    The germline is unique in mammals as it is the only cell lineage that undergoes mitosis, meiosis, and differentiation. The lineage is comprised of an array of developmentally distinct stages from the germinal stem cell to the terminally differentiated sperm or oocyte. Elucidation of the biology of germline development as well as germinal stem cell maintenance or differentiation would be of great impact to both the biomedical as well as agricultural communities. For example, improvements in assisted reproduction (in humans) and cloning (in animals) technologies are dependent on advancing current in vitro systems towards more efficient oocyte development. Similarly, the development of methodologies to maintain germinal stem cell systems for male or female instances of spontaneous or drug/toxin-induced infertility in humans or, in the case of agricultural animals, for alternative modes of cryopreservation to maintain germplasm or to improve transgenic technologies for the enhancement of production traits and the generation of animal models with nutraceutical worth, are all important.

  • 2014全国系统与进化植物学研讨会暨第十一届青年学术研讨会

    自全国系统进化研讨会议暨第十届青年系统进化研讨会在昆明召开以来,本学科领域随着生命科学的快速发展,又有了长足的进步、取得了可喜的成果。为进一步加强我国系统与进化植物学研究领域的交流与合作,促进学科发展和人才成长,提升国际竞争力,并迎接2017年第19届国际植物学大会首次在我国召开,经中国植物学会系统与进化植物学专业委员会商定于2014年秋季召开全国系统与进化植物学研讨会暨第十一届青年学术研讨会。

  • 功能肝细胞发展及应用研讨会

    肝脏疾病是人类健康的巨大威胁,特别是肝炎病毒导致的肝炎、肝硬化及肝癌在我国尤为严重,随之而来的肝衰竭是最常见的致死病因。原位肝移植被认为是治疗急、慢性肝衰竭的最佳方法,但是由于肝脏来源缺乏等原因, 临床应用受到很大的限制。目前肝细胞移植技术已经在动物实验及临床实验中被证明对急、慢性肝功能衰竭及遗传性肝代谢性疾病有较好的疗效。然而,原代肝细胞的获得仍然依赖供体器官,造成了和肝脏器官移植的竞争。除了临床治疗应用外,肝细胞还可广泛应用于制药工业的药物代谢和药物毒理研究、制作人工生物 肝装置及开展肝炎病毒的疫苗研究等。基于同样的原因,虽然原代肝细胞在药物研发等领域具有独特地位并且被广泛应用,被FDA认为是“黄金标准”,但是由于价 格昂贵,供体缺乏,其使用一直受到限制。因此如何获得替代性的功能肝细胞具有非常重要的临床意义和工业价值。
